New Monument is a primary school, with a nursery, situated in the Maybury district of Woking, Surrey. The school caters for pupils in the age range 3 – 11. Everything you need to know about the school you should be able to find on this website. However, we would love you to come and visit us and find out about the school in person! New Monument wins first prize for Best School Environmental Garden in Woking! We should be very proud of Mrs Jackson and her Gardening Club. Over the past two years, they have transformed the area behind the nursery playground into a wonderful environmental garden. Woking Borough Council have recognised their efforts by awarding this year's first prize to the school, in Woking in Bloom's "Best School Environmental Garden" category. This annual competition focussed this year on environmental practices, particularly: reduce water use in the garden; cut down on use of pesticides and inorganic fertilisers; use alternatives to peat; compost kitchen and garden waste; and attract wildlife and create habitats. The school received a magnificient trophy, which we keep for a year and is on display in the school foyer, an engraved plate, a certificate and £100 cheque to spend at a garden centre. Here's a picture from the award ceremony and the certificate: ![]()

The number of New Monument families with computers at home and broadband access to the Internet is going up all the time; we believe that most children now have high-speed access to the Internet at home. So, why not encourage your child to carry on learning at home or show you what they have been learning? To get them started, here are pages of links to free websites they use in their ICT lessons in school. The pages are split up into yeargroups and so your child should easily be able to find something they have used in school to show you. Click here to access the links. Then let them play safely online "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" or so they used to say. Here are links to webpages containing activities and games that we think are safe for children to use and are ones we let the children here at school use once they have they finished their work. We particularly recommend friv.com and poissonrouge.com. Year 6 SATs Revision In January we will start various initiatives regarding Year 6 SATs. The first, an Early Morning Club, will start on 12th January when Year 6 childen will be able to use the ICT Suite for SATs revision or study. Parents of Year 6 Kestrel class children will be receiving a letter about this before the Christmas break. The second initiative is the setting up of a 'wikispace' linking to lots of SATs revision resources. The address is https://newmonumentschool.wikispaces.com/ but you can click here to go straight to the New Monument wiki. Year 6 pupils are encouraged to use this wiki at school and at home and we will be adding lots more pages to it over the coming weeks. Talking Stories Listen to stories online to encourage reading and to help learn English. Reading Stories Read stories online by clicking here. We have a lot of 'EAL' children here at our School. EAL stands for 'English as an additional language' and means children who may have recently come to this country and do not speak English as their first language. We do lots of things here at the school to make sure these children are taught in the same way as the children who do speak English while providing them with extra support to make sure they learn quickly to speak English well. Click here on or the map of the world to find out more about what we do.
