SEND

Inlcusion at New Monument

We believe that all teachers are teachers of SEND and that all our SEND children are entitled to the very best to education to enable them to thrive, aspire and achieve. We want to ensure that our school meets the needs of every child we teach, and we know that by doing this in partnership with strong parental engagement our pupils will have a greater chance of success.

Parent/carer involvement takes many forms and building supportive home/school links as early as possible helps us to identify potential barriers and support the specific needs of all our children and their families.

How we involve and support parents:

  • An inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Daily opportunities for face to face contact between parents/carers and school staff
  • A Home School Link Worker (HSLW) and a Family Support Officer (FSO) who is multi-lingual is available for face-to-face meetings or telephone conversations throughout the day
  • Holding meetings with parents (SENCo / Class Teacher / LSA) when required
  • Sharing and, when necessary, discussing targets
  • Interventions in place are discussed / shared with parents
  • Parents are given advice on how to support their child at home
  • Parents are provided with resources where necessary
  • Parents are signposted to help they can access outside of school
  • Supported meetings with professionals and joint target setting/transition planning with parents/carers
  • Signposting to external support services

How we involve children?

  • Discuss children’s One Page Profiles / Passports to gain a stronger understanding of how they best learn
  • Gain pupil voice and feedback from interventions
  • Share targets when appropriate

We are committed to doing whatever we possibly can to promote the best life chances for our children, so that they can achieve their greatness.
